Intergenerational Living & Small Sites

NORTH EALING MEWS

North Ealing Mews, a back-land development, introduces twelve high-quality intergenerational homes, prioritizing culturally specific and needs-based housing to enhance Ealing residents' well-being. This innovative approach demonstrates the vital role of 'small sites' in addressing London's housing needs and provides a blueprint for sustainable, community-focused urban development.

The houses are laid out in a staggered plan, giving each entrance architectural character and reducing overlooking, as well as increasing security through natural surveillance. This thoughtfully designed arrangement not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes a sense of community by fostering a safer living environment.

Intergenerational Wellbeing Housing Design Toolkit

Existing housing offerings rely on minimal standards and adhere to nuclear family models, failing to address the diverse needs of contemporary British households. Our housing fundamentals for well-being embrace holistic approaches that can be replicated across various sites, encompassing six core elements.

Second Floor
Ground Floor
First Floor

1- CLT Structure

2- Wood Fibre Insulation

3- Triple Glazed Windows

4- London Stock Brick

5- Sustainable Cedar Wood Cladding

Our material strategy emphasizes natural materials for health and sustainability, utilizing a prefabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure for efficient assembly and reduced on-site effort. This approach not only de-risks the project by simplifying processes but also aligns with the Mayor's vision for a circular economy and the Green New Deal initiative, promoting adaptability and recycling.
