NOOMA Studio has been appointed as part of a consortium selected for Be First’s new design framework, a programme established to support the delivery of up to 3,500 socially rented homes and other key developments in Barking and Dagenham between 2023 and 2027.

Be First, the regeneration arm of Barking and Dagenham Council, announced a new £35 million design framework to accelerate housebuilding and create high‑quality, sustainable neighbourhoods across the borough. The framework brings together a group of design teams selected for their multi‑disciplinary expertise and understanding of local character and community needs.

NOOMA Studio is part of a consortium led by White Arkitekter, working alongside Civic Engineers, Skelly & Couch, and Atelier Ten. This consortium was chosen from over 75 applications for its tailored, collaborative approach and commitment to sustainable design.

The framework supports Be First’s wider ambitions to deliver around 3,500 socially rented homes and contribute to the borough’s long‑term regeneration. It enables Be First to work with a consistent group of design partners over several years, fostering deep local knowledge and a sustained focus on high‑quality, inclusive neighbourhood design.

This appointment reflects NOOMA Studio’s growing role in housing and regeneration work in London, contributing to multidisciplinary teams addressing urgent challenges in affordability, sustainability and community‑centred design.
